Crochet lesson 3- Double Crochet

Now that you can single crochet with no problem (as you learned in lesson 2) lets move on to the double crochet "DC"

Here are the basic steps for working a double crochet
~ yarn over hook
~ insert hook into specified stitch
~ yarn over hook, pull up a loop through stitch (you now have 3 loops on hook)
~ yarn over hook, pull through 2 loops (you now have 2 loops on hook)
~ yarn over hook, pull through 2 loops
And you now have completed a double crochet..
Here is the video for a double crochet

The double crochet is used very often. It is a larger stitch that alows foaster working times, plus it always looks very clean and nice. You will find this stitch in almost every pattern that you work.

Crochet lesson 2- the single crochet

Now that you have mastered the Chain row in Crochet Lesson 1 we are going to move on to the next most basic stitch in crochet, the single crochet.

You can make most anything with a single crochet, hats, scarves, blankets... anything :)

Here are the basic steps to a single crochet

~ insert hook into indicated stitch
~ yarn over hook, and pull up a loop in the stitch
~ you now have 2 loops on your hook
~ yarn over hook, and pull through both loops on hook.
Thats it, a single crochet!

Here is the video for a single crochet

~~~~~~~~The next video to come will be a double crochet~~~
Crochet Lesson 1
You can teach yourself how to crochet!!! How do I know you can do this? I taught myself every step of the way. And now I write my own patterns and have sold over 500 items that were my creations. I started off knowing only one stitch, now it is very rare that I find something that I can not do with crochet.
When learning something new, you always want to start off with the basics.
The three basic crochet stitches I am going to explain are the chain row, a single crochet, half double crochet, and a double crochet.
Lets start with a chain row... The foundation for most crochet patterns.
The first thing you need to do is make a slip knot onto your hook. Then you will wrap the yarn around the hook, and pull it through the initial loop on your hook. Then again, you wrap the yarn over the hook, and pull through the loop already on the hook. You continue that until you have the desired amount of chains for your chain row.
Here is the video on a chain row (I always think videos make it so much easier then reading descriptions on a tutorial)
Once you have mastered a chain row, you will be ready to move onto the basic stitches in crochet.. Soon I will post lessons for each of these stitches.
I look forward to working with you more on learning how to crochet...
Welcome to my new blog...
One of my goals for 2012 is to expand my business. I have many goals on that list... I want to start a successful blog ( who really wants an unsuccessful blog? lol), and I also want to start my own website away from etsy! I'm so excited about this new adventure, but a little unsure about all of it, and how exactly to reach my goals
For those of you who don't know what The Hook Up is... here is a little intro..
The Hook Up is my business, my obsession. I make and sell hand crocheted items. I love to crochet, and I love that my passion has given me a way to support my family while still being home with my wonderful family every day.
Well, that is all I have for this first little blog post... I look forward to adding more soon!
